Project Description

Excel Electric, Inc. performed the core and shell electrical construction for the Will County Courthouse in Joliet, Illinois, delivering the foundational electrical infrastructure required to support a large, multi-story judicial facility.

Project Overview

Our scope included installation of the building electrical service and primary distribution, including main switchgear, switchboards, feeders, and vertical riser distribution to electrical rooms on all floors. Electrical closets were fully outfitted with panelboards, transformers, and grounding bus bars in coordination with future interior build-out work.

The project also included the installation of a Cummins 750 kW natural gas standby generator and associated automatic transfer switches, providing reliable emergency and standby power for life-safety systems and critical building operations.

Excel Electric furnished and installed a complete building grounding and bonding system, along with a lightning protection system in compliance with NFPA and UL standards. Surge protection devices were installed at electrical service entrances and coordinated for data and communication systems.

Additional scope included electrical infrastructure for life-safety and code-required systems, such as emergency responder radio coverage, as well as technology and low-voltage rough-in including conduits, backboxes, cable pathways, and grounding in MDF and IDF rooms.

To support construction operations, Excel Electric also provided temporary power and lighting systems, coordinating installation, maintenance, and removal per project requirements.
